The Cheetah Girls…Descendants…Zombies! Who doesn’t love Disney films? Luca, a Disney and Pixar original film that was recently released has become very popular. This PG-rated movie is about two sea creatures who leave their homes in the ocean to explore the surface. There is body humor included. “It’s a sweet coming-of-age story about courage, curiosity, and friendship — specifically, that of Luca and Alberto,” states movie critic, Sandie Angulo Chen. Luca is the main character, hence the title. He is the son of a family of sea creatures. His parents, Daniela and Lorenzo, fearing that humans might hunt him, forbid him to approach the surface. Luca abides by his parent’s rules until curiosity gets the best of him. He follows this boy, Alberto up to the shore, where they both transform into humans. They quickly become best friends. Luca’s parents soon find out about him going up to the shore, and threatens to send him to the depths of the ocean with his uncle. Being scared of going with his uncle, he runs away with his friend, Alberto to the nearest human town. There, they meet Giulia who tells them about the town’s annual race.  The boys team up with her to win the race. “They must also do everything they can to keep from getting wet, lest the sea-monster-fearing villagers try to spear them,” says Chen.

This is a very light-hearted film.  Chen continues, “The setting is so vivid that audiences will want to book a flight to the Italian Riviera for some amazing pasta, clear seas, and the charm of winding cobblestone streets, marble fountains, and quirky townsfolk.” The boys discover the joys and dangers of the human world. “This isn’t a tearjerker, and that’s actually refreshing — not every Pixar film needs to be an emotionally cathartic affair. This one is tender, sweet, and funny, with silly physical comedy and an amusingly suspicious cat,” shares Chen. People of all ages will enjoy this sweet film. Go ahead, and watch it!
